The High Cost of Movie Production To Keep Us Entertained

Hollywood producers spend big bucks keeping us entertained with new movies each year. There is no limit to what they will spend if the return is going to result in large numbers of ticket sales. It cost far more these days to create a special effects blockbuster hit than it did 10 years ago.

It cost movies producers tens of millions to produce a blockbuster hit. Once a new movie takes off in a big way, Hollywood makes it up in ticket sales. In the past, some new films t hit the theaters have generated over one hundred million dollars for the producers. It is a big industry with a lot of money to be made when all the pieces come together.

Screenings of movies are another way Hollywood prepares the public. During these screenings, a select group of media personnel are invited to watch the first preview of the movie. As a result, tons of media reviews are released in broadcast media around the world increasing the excitement for the general release to the public. This type of buzz marketing is very effective at driving ticket sales.

Since the success or failure of a movie is usually determined in first week of its premiere release, many Hollywood studios often have advanced screenings of movies as an attempt to pump up the ticket sales before the movie is released to the general public. This creates buzz advertising and free press as media outlets around the world feature spotlights of the movie.

Given the history of the movie industry during the past 50 years, Hollywood has figured out what makes a movie a hit. They know what Americans and people around the world want to see. In some cases, it does not take 50 million dollar budget to create a hit move. Big sellers have been produced as a result of creating low budget horror flicks such as the Rocky Horror Picture Show and Night of the Living Dead.

Hollywood not only generates millions of dollars in tickets sales as new releases hit the theaters, but they also get a percentage of sales from DVD rentals and purchases too. Older classics are still favored by many. Some people buy entire collections and series of movies and television shows such as the popular show 24.

Older movie classics like Godzilla and King Kong have been remade using modern special effects and have attracted a wide viewing audience. These are movies that once entertained us with mediocre special effects now updated with dazzling life-like quality. One of the newer in this genre that paid off well was the Jurassic Park series. With almost two sold out sequels and tens of thousands of DVD rentals and sales, it paid off big for producers.

The latest movie trends to create explosive interest are fantasy movies like Shrek and popular superhero's taken from the pages of Marvel Comics. These fantasy characters entertain us with an onscreen adventure that once was left to the imagination of a paper cartoonist. Today, thanks to Hollywood, we can enjoy of favorite fantasy characters with a little more life.
