Top Six Picks of Xbox 360 Games

By Taylor H. Thomas

A leading pioneer of seventh generation consoles made by any of the three largest manufacturers, the Xbox 360 carries almost a thousand games to date. This can make searching for the best games hard, especially since most Xbox titles can cost as much as $60 a piece, no matter how good it is. Fortunately, you can simply buy these top six picks to your Xbox library instead of purchasing an attractive package of good and mediocre games.

The worthy successor to the highly-rated Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion game, Fallout 3 has gained similar positive reviews. With its post-World War II setting, Fallout 3 successfully combines three elements of an excellent action strategy game: fast-paced action in combat, realistic first-person shooter perspective, and intelligent survival in a post-apocalyptic scenario. And even if you have yet to play a Fallout game before, you will definitely enjoy picking up Fallout 3 now.

2) Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and the Damned is the first in the GTA series to offer you the chance to play online against other people. For those who've played other titles in this series, this game comes with a new main character, new missions, new weapons and vehicles, and a Liberty City so real and vivid it becomes part of the story. It has earned many "Game of the Year Awards," and is well worth your time.

3) Another game with numerous awards is Dead Space, a game that has earned the moniker: "World's Scariest Game." Not for the faint of heart, or anyone who doesn't like a little gore with their game, this is for fans of dark, brooding horror and difficult, challenging puzzles. And, a brief warning, Dead Space has earned awards for its spine-chilling audio. Try playing this game in the dark. I dare you.

However, if you want excellent third-person shooter games without the too-scary part, then gear up for Gears of War 2. The new multiplayer modes allowing for play between 10 players and the improved game play are the reasons for its numerous awards including Best Xbox 360 Game for 2008, which should be reason enough to purchase it for your collection, too.

And then there is Halo 3. This is the third title in the Halo series, with the first two titled as Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2. Three of its strongest features are the multiplayer map lineup, the saved films feature and the Forge level editor, which has earned Halo 3 the Best Multiplayer Game award. If you have enjoyed the first two Halo games, the Halo 3 will make you jump for joy with all its new features.

6) For those who worry that this list is all about shooting, killing, and violence, I give you The Beatles: Rock Band. It has received raves for its visual and audios, and some people say that playing it is an almost 'surreal experience.' Not only do you get to play 45 of the Beatles famous songs, but you can play with the Beatles, themselves. And don't forget to try the multiplayer option on this game, either. Your friends will thank you.

There are dozens, if not hundreds more Xbox 360 games out there, award winning or not. Take your time to browse through the vast offerings of game sites, looking at reviews from critics and fellow gamers alike. With so many options, it won't take you long to make your own top six pick.
